June 21, 2011 in Arts/Living

Starting Wed., June 22, Columbia City Gallery presents two new exhibits, “Mixed White” and “PaperWorks” to run through August 7.

In the Main gallery, Mixed White Gallery artists Mark Ditzler, Sally Drew, Kate Harkins and Shari Kaufman explore the myriad possibilities in the use of various shades of white in new works, while new gallery artist Christopher Bryce Morris shows work from his Event Horizon series, which are enamel on metal paintings that explore the influence of digital media on the sexual psyche.

“These are exploratory pieces,” said Morris. “not made to announce bold philosophical/moral statements, but more to provoke viewers to confront their own thoughts on the matter.”…

The Artists’ Reception – free and open to the public – is planned for Sat., June 25, from 5 to 8 pm at the Columbia City Gallery (4864 Rainier Ave. S.).

3 artists exhibit artwork made from and about paper. Bo Young Choi shows work from her series “Freedom under Control: Bible Weaving.” Choi deconstructs and re-weaves Bibles to express freedom in the guide given to us by religion. Celeste Cooning debuts a series of silver leafed cut paper works, influenced by the history of pattern and ornament, which explores the silver lining through symmetry, light, and color. Japanese-American artist Greg Kono explores his culture through kite making. He uses bamboo and washi (Japanese handmade paper) which have been used for centuries in Japan; though his designs are anything but traditional.
